Robert Newcombe was a regional finalist in 2000 on the Channel 4 program Watercolour Challenge.

Robert feels that his best watercolours are created quickly to capture the ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere; a loose line and wash technique produces paintings with more detail than the pure watercolours.
