Griselda!
During my working life I served on numerous    bodies, both professional and non-professional, in all roles except Secretary, which I think needs a very special kind of person. I vowed that when I retired I would serve on no more committees. I'd had enough. So why do I still do it? The reason is    simple. All organisations, except perhaps a few professional institutions who have paid administrators, are run for the members by the members.
Dear Members,

I am now half way through my term of office and it is time to start looking for a new Chairman. I took on the job for one year only solely to save the Society from being wound up as no one else would come forward.

I know that many of you have already served on   the committee in the past but there are still many members, and you find them in all organisations, who think that all they have to do is to pay their  subscriptions and turn up for the meetings. Unfortunately, as most of us know, it doesn't work like that.

If every member of the Society served just a two-year stint on the committee there would no problems for the foreseeable future. It only involves a few hours a month and you really get a sense of belonging to the group. In addition you get to know more people and they get to know you. So please turn up at the next annual general meeting and offer your services. You will not regret it.

Harry Edwards, Chairman.
As usual Roy Lang gave us  a highly informative and amusing demonstration playing to a packed house.  He ended with a real sob story that didn’t really prepare us for the lamentation of 17 Cornish pasties being swept away by recent floods!!    He also showed us his latest invention to carry wet canvasses and palettes to be marketed by the SAA.
April Meeting— Roy Lang Seascape in Oils
The workshop didn’t disappoint and there were some beautiful paintings.  Mind you we were still mixing colours come lunch time!!
I went to a demonstration recently which was quite comical.  The artist was obviously very talented but not (I hope) a seasoned demonstrator.  Not only did he cover what he was doing with his entire body, thus making viewing and filming impossible but he fielded questions by saying things like ’Now is not a good time’,  ‘This is a really difficult bit’.  He never did came back to the questions but what made me really die was when he said ‘Do you know I am doing this?’ His answer -‘Because I can!!’

Must remember to tell Alf to avoid him.

MKSA May meeting
Michael Lawes—Pastels

Mike gave an interesting demonstration on the visual effects of light such as reflections of windows, car headlights and lit up buildings.  His painting was a kaleidoscope of colour.  The added touches of highlights at the end gave the painting a 3D look.  Trained as a graphic artist this showed up in his perfect drawing. The workshop promises to be a         fantastic journey of the discovery of colour.
Wednesday 25 June  Westcroft, 7.30 pm— Anthony Slinn
"Probably the most unknown artist in the world."
Not sure what Anthony is talking about but it is always entertaining and informative.

Susi  Whittaker wanted me to tell you that her puppy  Lola won a Red Rosette in a recent show and that she, herself, narrowly missed the prize for the  scruffiest. And if you believe that ...
As part of Bucks Open Studios—The Lydcote Group (Susi Whittaker,      Jill Varone, Irene Foster, Kate East, Bez West, Lisa Campbell and
Val Kyle (LBAS Chair) had great fun last year in Stewkley and we are     together again in Woughton Park this year (address below)

As well as our paintings you can see garden sculptures, cards, coasters and support CLIC SARGENT the      children’s charity for cancers.  Raffle prizes from Virgin ‘V‘  cosmetics to free art lessons—home-made cakes and refreshments may further tempt you.  The studio is in a delightful  garden setting so you can wander round and sit out in the sun if it shines.  A warm welcome awaits – this is not a stuffy art show – but somewhere you can spend some time and relax.

Sorry—not sure who sent these but it was probably Linda Sargent !! Thanks anyway and for the hundreds of others xxx.
You’re doing a great job Harry…………… Thank you

I do hope someone comes forward to take over from Harry without the nail biting finalé of last year.  Harry is a fantastic Chairman, taking on his role with discretion, fairness and always with the Society at heart.

Recently went to Bath and saw some amazing paintings by a guy called  ‘Pete the Street ’  - most of his paintings were sold at the preview.

From 1 August next year the wonderful Kurt Jackson will be exhibiting. If enough were interested maybe we could get a trip organised (coach or cars)? Let me know.  As you know Bath is very beautiful with great architecture, art and shops including specialist shops, like antique maps, mosaics and boutiques.
