John trained at Lincoln School of Art and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London where he was awarded a Diploma in Art and Design with honours in 1968.
This led to a career in educational publishing working for the BBC and The Open University and a variety of freelance clients.
Since retiring in 2002, John has aimed to rediscover the drawing and image making
skills achieved at art college and to apply them through the medium of watercolour.
In his paintings, he aims to evoke strong feelings of light, atmosphere, and place
and is especially drawn to land and seascape subjects around the reed-
One such painting, ‘Beach Huts at Southwold’, was awarded a prize in the Leisure Painter category of the 2004 Pitchings Art Festival – a national competition organised by The Leisure Painter and The Artist magazines.
